(Note: I’m not promoting any of these product. I just wanted to help out and share my experience.)
Hola readers,
For years, I’ve been battling with constant dry and extremely itchy scalp. I’ve been in and out of dermatology clinics trying to find a cure but I haven’t had much luck. So I did my own experiment with a bunch of products as my last resort. There is nothing worse than a regular urge to scratch your scalp in public.
Now, let us break down the the common root causes of a itchy scalp problem:
- dandruff
- ringworm
- poor hair care
- head lice
- autoimmune disease
- stress or fatigue
It’s important to talk to a doctor before jumping to a conclusion. With my case, my doctor diagnosed me with psychological or physical stress that caused my scalp to be flaky. He asked me not to use any treatment but instead to relax myself. I’ve done everything he asked, but still it’s not working for me.
I’ve also tried most of the anti-fungal treatment but it made my head worse. And then I tried home remedies but still nothing works.
These are the home remedies I tried with no luck:
- apple cider vinegar
- lemon
- tea tree oil (shampoo and conditioner)
- honey
- banana
- coconut
I’m starting to get worried after experiencing hair fall, redness, swelling and sometimes open sores due to constant scratching.
These are the products I am currently using to treat my problem and it really works well.
As shown above:
- Aura Cacia Argan Oil— Use it before bedtime or after you have showered. I usually add it on my tea tree mix (see no. 4)
- Aveda damage remedy— This is a hair mask. Use it once a week or twice in a month, depending how bad your hair is. To use: after shampooing pat your hair dry then massage onto your scalp and hair. Leave on for 7 minutes then rinse.
- Aveda Sun block spf 30 (I’m using this for my face, great product)
- Thursday Plantation Tea tree oil — Preparation: Add a drop of oil into a 50 ml spray container then add water (you can add argan if you like or sunflower oil). Shake before you spray it onto your scalp. Spray it as needed before bedtime.
- Aveda Rosemary Mint — this one is my favourite lotions, suits my extreme dry skin. Use this after bath or shower.
- Aveda Exfoliating shampoo — Use as your regular shampoo.
- Aveda Scalp Revitalizer— Apply twice a day, spray directly onto scalp either damp or dry. Spray 4-6 times then gently massage your hair.(note: direction says 16 times, I think it is too much).
- Aveda Thickening Conditioner— Use as your regular conditioner, you don’t need to apply it on your scalp.
